Diagnostyka stomatologiczna to kompleksowe badanie mające na celu zrozumienie natury choroby stomatologicznej pacjenta, postwienie rozpoznania (np. wada zgryzu, ropień okołowierzchołkowy) i zaproponowanie optymalnego planu leczenia.
Choroba stomatologiczna królików i gryzoni ma charaker:
nabyty (rozwija się z wiekiem),
nieuleczalny (nie da się cofnąć zmian, które zaszły i przywrócić zębom idealnego kształtu i zgryzu),
postępujący (z biegiem czasu zmiany będą coraz poważniejsze, mogą pojawić się komplikacje, np. ropnie okołozębowe).
Choroba będzie towarzyszyła pacjentowi do końca życia. Do końca życia będą więc konieczne regularne kontrole stomatologiczne, żeby ocenić stan zębów i skorygować zgryz (skrócić przerośnięte zęby, wygładzić krawędzie). Większość pacjentów potrzebuje korekcji stomatologicznych co kilka-kilkanaście tygodni.
Zabieg chirurgiczny (usunięcie zęba, opracowawnie ropnia) pozwala "ugasić pożar", ale nie naprawia całego zgryzu. Pozostałe zęby często nie ścierają się pawidłowo i wymagają korekcji.
